The streets of San José del Cabo hum differently on a Thursday night. Cobblestones glow under lantern light, mezcal drifts through the air, and music spills from every doorway. Children weave between collectors, gallerists, and travelers while galleries keep their doors flung wide.
For sixty days each spring, Art Baja transforms Baja California Sur into a living canvas. This year the festival’s third edition turned plazas, beaches, and hidden courtyards across San José del Cabo, Todos Santos, and La Paz into open-air stages for contemporary art, music, gastronomy, and community ritual. And with Art Baja 2026 now confirmed for March 18 – April 5, the momentum is only building.
A Festival Written Across Three Towns
Art Baja is not a single destination but a constellation.
- San José del Cabo—long famed for its Thursday art walks—became the beating heart. The Plaza Antonio Mijares morphed into an immersive playground for concerts and installations, while galleries such as Casa Doma, Galería en Blanco, and Ginocchio showcased work that bridged Mexican tradition and avant-garde experimentation.
- Todos Santos, the bohemian enclave, pulsed with raw energy. Spaces like Galería Enrique Guerrero, Galería Militar, and Oysteria–SantaTerra hosted exhibitions and late-night salons, while courtyards and private homes doubled as impromptu performance venues.
- La Paz, the state capital, offered scale and spectacle. Along the malecón, sculptures appeared overnight, and the Museo de Arte de Baja California Sur staged ambitious group shows. The Malecón Kiosk became a nightly gathering point, its sea breezes carrying music and laughter.
This decentralized model—spanning plazas, restaurants, hotels, and community centers—remains core to Art Baja’s mission of inclusivity and public engagement.
Spotlight on Artists

- Mark Gabriel – acrylic, ink, cold wax. “Athena & Pegasus – in a reinterpretation of a Corinthian hero’s vision, the goddess of wisdom atop Pegasus fits her magical golden bridle.
- Alejandro Glatt (Mexico) “Papaya Portals”
- Galeria Enrique Guerrero – Zazil Barba “Antes De Parpadear”
Nights That Danced Between Worlds
While days belonged to galleries, nights blurred into performance. One electric highlight was Los Eclipses, the Franco-Mexican electro-pop duo whose ethereal set at Cate dissolved the boundary between audience and art. Elsewhere, impromptu jam sessions erupted in courtyards, DJs spun vinyl beneath desert stars, and children drummed along the waterfront.
Gastronomy as Cultural Dialogue

Baja’s culinary scene rose to the occasion. Mid-April brought the Oyster Festival at Veleros Beach Club, where chefs from across the peninsula served briny, citrus-kissed oysters alongside crisp Baja wines as bonfires flickered on the sand. In Todos Santos, Oysteria kept things intimate, pairing local shellfish with garden-infused cocktails and local vibes.
Mornings belonged to PanVero Whole Bakery & Elixirs, beloved for its gluten- and dairy-free rosemary focaccia and cacao-quinoa muffins—fuel for a day of gallery-hopping.
Community & Sustainability
From the start, Art Baja has been about more than art. Under the direction of Zélika García and Karim Reza, the festival invites both locals and international creators to collaborate, strengthening the region’s creative economy and projecting Baja’s cultural identity worldwide.
The 2025 edition extended free invitations to past participants, fostering cross-generational dialogue and reinforcing its reputation as a festival by and for the community.
Organizers also deepened their environmental commitments. In partnership with [Local Environmental Group Placeholder], Art Baja piloted a near-zero-waste program, encouraged biking and walking between venues, and hosted workshops on [specific reef/desert conservation topic].
