Britain’s Summer, Reimagined: Inside the New Season of PoB Hotels

From castle escapes and treehouse retreats to garden spas, culinary adventures and landmark celebrations, PoB Hotels presents a distinctly British summer shaped by independent hospitality.

Summer in Britain has always been less about predictable sunshine and more about discovering places with personality. It is a season of long lunches in country gardens, evenings overlooking rugged coastlines, historic towns rediscovered on foot, and hotels that feel deeply rooted in their surroundings.

This summer, PoB Hotels—the collection of Britain’s finest independent hotels—brings together a season of new openings, countryside adventures, wellness retreats and culinary experiences that celebrate exactly that philosophy. Rather than simply offering places to stay, the collection continues to champion destinations where landscape, history and local character become part of the journey itself.

A Summer Guided by Place

Leading the season is the appointment of farmer, conservationist and television presenter Jimmy Doherty as the newest ambassador for PoB Hotels. Known for his passion for British food, farming and nature, Doherty embodies many of the values the collection represents.

His newly curated Farm to Fork Scottish Adventure invites travellers to experience Scotland through estate dining, whisky tastings, kitchen gardens and coastal produce, linking Prestonfield House in Edinburgh, Mar Hall near Glasgow and Glenapp Castle in Ayrshire into one immersive itinerary. It is a journey where gastronomy becomes a way of understanding place.

Historic Hotels, Fresh Perspectives

Among the newest additions to the collection is the White Hart Hotel in Lincoln.

Located beside Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle in the city’s historic Bailgate quarter, the newly restored property blends heritage architecture with contemporary comfort. Elegant guestrooms, refined dining at the two AA Rosette Antlers Restaurant and wellness experiences at The Aquitaine Spa position it as an ideal base for exploring one of England’s most historic cities.

Elsewhere, several member properties introduce entirely new ways to experience Britain’s landscapes.

At Glenapp Castle, The Nest opens this July as an intimate one-bedroom garden cottage surrounded by nature and complete with its own private outdoor wellness sanctuary.

Meanwhile, London’s Athenaeum Hotel & Residences unveils two new tenth-floor suites overlooking Buckingham Palace and Green Park, offering one of the capital’s most privileged perspectives.

Wellness in the Landscape

Across the collection, wellness continues to evolve beyond the traditional spa.

At Armathwaite Hall in the Lake District, guests can experience a Japanese-inspired Head Spa alongside new estate suites and the launch of Zaika restaurant.

In the Cotswolds, Calcot & Spa introduces its outdoor Recovery Garden featuring infrared saunas and invigorating cold plunges, complemented by newly opened luxury treehouses complete with private saunas.

Further north, Yorebridge House in the Yorkshire Dales expands its offering with the Meadow Suite and the new River Retreat, combining riverside spa experiences with slow countryside living.

Gardens, Food and Slow Living

Summer throughout the PoB collection is equally defined by gardens and regional cuisine.

The Montagu Arms celebrates the New Forest through seasonal “Grow with the Flow” experiences and leisurely Sip & Graze lunches, while several properties mark significant anniversaries with events that celebrate both their history and their local communities.

From the Priory’s fiftieth anniversary to Seaham Hall’s “25 Acts of Kindness” initiative, these milestones reflect the enduring character that independent hotels bring to British hospitality.

Beyond the Ordinary

The season concludes with one of the collection’s most distinctive experiences.

For travellers seeking something beyond traditional hotel stays, the Hebridean Princess offers a seven-night Golf in Argyll and Ayrshire sailing itinerary this September. Guided in part by Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie, the voyage combines Scotland’s celebrated golf courses with ever-changing coastal scenery viewed from one of Britain’s most iconic small cruise vessels.

A Celebration of Independent Britain

What connects these experiences is not a single design language or luxury formula, but individuality.

Each property within PoB Hotels reflects its own landscape, history and community while sharing a commitment to thoughtful hospitality. Together, they present a different way to explore Britain—one where independent hotels become gateways to culture, gastronomy, wellness and place.

This summer, the journey is as much about discovering Britain’s character as it is about discovering Britain itself.
