Tucked in a lush valley between the forested slopes of Monte Faete the highest peak in the southern Tuscan Maremma at 837 metres and the quietly rising medieval village of Cana, a sacred slice of Italy is being restored, reimagined, and reopened to the world.
Spanning over 100 hectares of protected land, Monte Faete Reserve is a place where silence dominates, skies remain dark enough to witness the entire Milky Way, and nature is your only neighbour. Once part of a historic Etruscan trade route and known in recent decades as Il Niccioletto, the land has now entered a new chapter through the Sunoom —a design-led philosophy rooted in wellness, elemental architecture, and regenerative living.
This is not a hotel, and not quite a resort. It is a wilderness retreat, a sanctuary. Accessible only by off-road vehicles that ford rivers and descend into a bowl of hills, Monte Faete is quite literally off the map. Here, there is minimal internet connection, no urban noise, no nearby towns—just birdsong, wind, and the slow rhythm of a life long forgotten. For those needing digital connection, Starlink is available. For those needing disconnection, nature has it covered.
The estate is now the flagship home of AROHA—Sunoom’s immersive retreat concept—and also available for private residencies, events, and creative gatherings. With its official launch in September 2025, Monte Faete will welcome seekers, artists, families, and visionaries into an environment where everything slows down—and everything begins again.
The Sunoom Vision
Monte Faete Reserve is the embodiment of the Sunoom ethos: that true luxury lies not in opulence, but in alignment with nature, craft, and consciousness. Built to be off-grid capable, low impact, and neuro-friendly, the reserve is a sensory and spatial experience, curated with reverence for both tradition and the future.
At its heart is Villa Sunoom – The Stone House, a restored Tuscan villa with five suites and a penthouse, surrounded by terraced gardens, a spring-fed pool, and views across the Albegna Valley.
Surrounding this central structure are:
- The Honeymoon House – a private 1-bedroom cottage for couples or solo reflection
- Palms + Stix Kitchen – a communal, open-concept kitchen celebrating gut-brain food rituals, earth-fired locally sourced meals, and shared table traditions
- ASTA Pavilion – a shaded structure for yoga, meditation, breathwork, and sound healing, nestled in the olive garden.
- Local Farm & Chickens – where eggs, herbs, fruits, and vegetables are grown on-site for seasonal menus
- 500+ Olive Trees – producing Monte Faete Olive Oil, available for purchase, with a ritual option to plant your own olive tree during your stay
- 3 km of Private Trails – for hiking and biking among ancient Maremma cows, rivers, forest lakes, and valley viewpoints
- AROHA Beach – a forest-framed, sound-dampened sand beach, infinity pool with sweeping views and white-noise silence—a space to read, nap, or simply be

Coming in 2026/27: A New Chapter of Experiences

- 9 Aroha Hideaways – discreet hillside dwellings with panoramic views and complete privacy
- 5 Sunoom Glamping Trailers – bespoke, off-grid living units designed for immersive nature stays
- The AROHA Wellness Pavilion – a tented open-air spa with gym, cold plunge, showers, and hammam rituals

A Place for Transformation
Monte Faete is designed to support circadian alignment, emotional regulation, and deep nervous system reset. Guests often describe it as a place “where time unravels,” and where the absence of roads, people, and noise becomes the greatest therapy. Whether arriving for a wellness retreat, a sabbatical, or a solo stay, transformation happens naturally here—through light, silence, food, earth, and breath.
A Stage for Life’s Most Meaningful Moments
With multiple outdoor gathering spaces, Monte Faete can host weddings, private family celebrations, corporate offsites, and creative immersions for up to 40 guests. There is onsite accommodation for 18, with overflow in nearby villages such as Cana and Roccalbegna.
A dedicated events team familiar with the land supports each occasion—from barefoot ceremonies and open-air banquets to firelit music, sommelier-led wine tastings, and wellness add-ons.
Everything is curated with precision, poetry, and an understanding that the setting is already sacred.
A Land Older Than Time
Monte Faete is not a blank canvas. It is a living museum of Tuscan history, from Etruscan settlements and Roman vineyards to medieval pathways and shepherding cultures. Its name—derived from the nearby peak once used as a lookout and protector—reflects a continuity of guardianship now passed on to its new stewards.
The wilderness reserve honours this past not through reconstruction, but by allowing it to remain alive—in the walls, in the soil, in the wind.
A Gateway to Maremma & Beyond
Monte Faete is ideally located for slow travel and rich regional exploration:
- Cana – a tiny 13th-century village with panoramic views and timeless charm
- Siena – a Gothic masterpiece of medieval architecture and spiritual heritage
- Montalcino – birthplace of Brunello, one of Italy’s most prestigious DOCG wines
- Antinori nel Chianti Classico – a wine estate blending innovation and heritage
- Saturnia Thermal Springs – wild, sulphur-rich waters with ancient healing lore
- Beaches of Grosseto & Punta Ala – within 45–75 minutes’ drive through rolling hills

An Invitation to Return to Yourself
Monte Faete is a place to pause and reinhabit your body. To be seen only by trees, stars, and stillness. To let the nervous system unwind in a valley that blocks out the world and draws in the cosmos. As Sunoom’s founder describes it:
“This isn’t a project. It’s a prayer. For beauty, for slowness, for something sacred that you take back with you.”

At Monte Faete, invites you to gift an olive tree, a living legacy—planted with intention, marked with a stone-carved heart bearing a name or message, and placed in sacred spots like the Honeymoon House garden, ASTA Pavilion, or star-gazing fields. Whether planted in person or from afar, each tree contributes to our pledge to plant 3,000 trees by 2027—restoring biodiversity, creating local jobs, and producing future harvests of oil, fruit, and shade. These trees are not just symbols of love and sustainability—they are gifts to the land and to future generations, who will tend them, learn from them, and grow alongside them.
