The Maldives adds a thrilling twist to its tranquil waters with the launch of Ifuru Island’s permanent skydiving dropzone, a first in this island paradise.
The Maldives, long celebrated for its tranquil beaches and luxury resorts, is now soaring to new heights with the opening of its first permanent skydiving dropzone at Ifuru Island. This exhilarating addition is set to transform the serene Indian Ocean destination into an adrenaline-packed haven for adventure seekers.
At the heart of this high-flying venture is Ifuru Island’s recently inaugurated resort, complete with its own airport—a strategic feature that made this skydiving endeavour possible. The resort teamed up with skydiving legends, including Will Penny of Skydive Maldives and Red Bull aerialist Fred Fugen, to bring this thrilling experience to life.
The launch event was a spectacle of daring feats, with Fred Fugen and his wife Laurence performing remarkable wingsuit flights and Australian skydiver Richard Pym showcasing massive Maldivian and Ifuru Island flags in a stunning aerial display. Guests and dignitaries on the island were captivated by these performances, setting a high bar for the excitement to come.
In addition to the visual spectacle, the event highlighted the accessibility of this extreme sport. With a short safety briefing, guests can be strapped to an experienced instructor and take off within 20 minutes, experiencing the exhilaration of free fall and a scenic canopy ride before landing back on the resort’s pristine beaches.
The launch period saw a flurry of activity, with athletes like Raph Coudray and Luis Lopez-Mendez performing up to 100 jumps a day. Their stunts, ranging from synchronised formations to solo dives, added an extra layer of excitement to the week’s festivities.
This initiative is not just about thrills; it’s a unique way to experience the Maldives’ beauty. Guests jumping from November to March will witness the archipelago’s breathtaking landscapes from an unmatched perspective—the azure waters, scattered islands, and vibrant coral reefs unfolding beneath them.
For those planning an extended stay, the resort sweetens the deal. Guests booking a seven-night stay or more are offered their first jump for free. This is in line with Ifuru Island’s commitment to providing a comprehensive, luxurious experience, as reflected in their ‘Exclusively Yours’ 24-hour all-inclusive meal plan and array of activities and excursions.
In the words of Rochelle Kilgariff, the resort’s Island Vibe Boss, this skydiving launch is “the beginning of something truly awesome and special for both the Maldives and Ifuru Island.”
The skydiving experience is available for individuals aged 10 and above, subject to the terms and conditions of the resort’s comprehensive all-inclusive package.
