There are restaurants that feed you, and then there are places like Oishi Tulum, where dining becomes something deeper, almost meditative. Hidden among Tulum’s whispering palms and the hum of the jungle, Oishi invites guests into an intimate world of flavour, light and emotion.
The architecture speaks first: soft curves of dark wood wrapping around a glowing bar, a warm red light that pulses gently at its centre, and a striking mural of a warrior that seems to guard the room. The design feels both grounded and ethereal, like a Japanese temple planted in the heart of Mexico. Every detail, from the suspended lanterns to the organic table shapes, echoes the chef’s philosophy: balance, intention and harmony.
When the chef steps forward, there’s an immediate calm. He speaks eight languages and carries the roots of four different cultures, channel-ling them all into his craft. “Food has always been my first language,” he says with a quiet smile. “Even as a child, I was obsessed with flavour. While others brought sandwiches to school, I’d bring my own sardines.”

That curiosity led him across continents, from luxury resorts in Canada to bustling food markets in Asia, before he found his creative home here, in Tulum. Oishi became his canvas, a place where boundaries between cultures fade and only the essence of taste remains.
Everything here centres on connection: to the land, to the ingredients, and to the person behind the counter. The chef sources locally whenever possible, yet isn’t afraid to reach across the world for the perfect touch: Japanese sea urchin, New Zealand lime caviar, and a playful mezcal with orange and grasshopper salt that sneaks in between courses, because even fine dining in Tulum knows how to have a little fun.
For anyone exploring Tulum’s fine-dining scene, Oishi is a must. Elegant, minimal and deeply human — a reminder that great food doesn’t just tell a story. It tells yours.
