What is Therabody?

Therabody specialises in wellness solutions, particularly massage therapy devices. Their popular product line, Theragun, is a handheld percussive therapy device designed to alleviate pain, improve range of motion, and aid in recovery. If you’re active on social media and even remotely interested in fitness, or suffer from chronic muscle pain, you couldn’t have missed the recent trend of massage guns.

Percussion therapy, as it’s known, doesn’t involve xylophones but powerful devices aimed at beating muscle tension into submission.

Therabody was born out of necessity in 2009 when Dr. Jason Wersland crafted the first Theragun prototype to alleviate his own muscle pain following a motorcycle accident. The official launch of Theragun in 2016 revolutionised the wellness industry, quickly becoming a staple for athletes and therapists alike. Therabody now produces various devices, including the LED TheraFace Mask for firming and glowing skin, the RecoveryTherm Cube for heat and cold therapy, and many more.

Can Therabody devices really diminish jet lag, enhance muscle recovery, and improve overall well-being? Therabody has conducted extensive research on their products, with 21 completed studies and 26 more in progress. They have published three peer-reviewed studies highlighting the benefits of their flagship product, Theragun. These studies show that Theragun can provide recovery benefits equivalent to a 15-minute massage in just 2 minutes, delay fatigue, improve muscular performance, and increase the range of motion.

Editor’s Opinion: Veronica Kohlbecker, WAWW Founder

Recently, I had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Café Royal with my family during our visit from Baden-Baden. As a busy working mother, I found solace in the Full Body Massage with Dual Theraguns, a perfect antidote to relax my muscles after a long flight and a day filled with meetings. The Akasha Spa, a beautifully designed sanctuary, boasts a serene 18m/60ft swimming pool, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, a state-of-the-art fitness space, and nine treatment rooms. Living up to its reputation, Akasha was rightfully awarded England’s Best Hotel Spa at the World Spa Awards 2023. The treatment was an excellent remedy for the multiple tension points in my body, working on various knots and soothing my nervous system. Post-treatment, I felt a wave of relaxation from head to toe. The specialists were professional, goal-oriented, and attentive. Their experience with alleviating severe muscle tension in top athletes was evident, and while I may have been an easier case for them, the relief I experienced was profound.
